Medal win makes ace Paula the gold standard at Spalding Golf Club

Paula Brown has won the coveted Gold Medal crown in Spalding Golf Club’s ladies’ section as their new season finally got under way.

The Surfleet showdown was held between all of the winners from last year’s medal competitions, with Brown’s net 80 enough to see off all of the others.

On the same day, a charity fun reverse waltz competition, dubbed the ‘Par and Pants’, encouraged 36 lady members to donate pants, socks and toilet rolls in lieu of an entry fee to support SOLDAS women’s refuge.

The ladies played for lingerie vouchers from the lady captain and their “enormous thanks” go to Hills Department Store, who matched her contribution.

The winners were Beryl Clay, Olive Gooderson and Sue Matthews, who pushed Pat West, Elizabeth Holbrook and Mo Wallace into second on countback.

A presentation was also made to the winners of Spalding’s Presidents Putter, a knockout competition run through the winter months.
