Meals on wheels gets makeover courtesy of The English Takeaway

A transport company has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase meals on wheels.

Daryl Moore, of NTP Services in Whaplode, has launched a new food service called The English Takeaway – and with 150 orders on the first weekend it seems demand is high.

Daryl, who is running the company with help from her daughter Kimbly, son Jason, daughter-in-law Kelly and grand-daughter’s boyfriend Calvin, is delighted with the response.

She said: “The haulage and logistics business goes quiet at this time of year and we decided we need to do something else, so we came up with the idea of The English Takeaway.

“The first Sunday we did 150 covers, the following weekend it rose to 170 and last weekend it was 173.

“People are raving about it.

“We have a Facebook page and it’s going mad. We’ve already got more than 1,240 likes.”

Initially the business was only open on Sundays from 12pm to 4pm, but due to demand is now serving food from 11am to 8pm Tuesday to Friday.

Delivery is within a ten mile radius of Spalding but customers can also call into the business on High Road and collect their food.

Daryl said: “We’re delighted with the response and when the transport business gets busy again in the New Year, we’ll take on more staff to continue the takeaway business, so we’ll be creating new jobs as well.”

The menu offers choices such as a full English breakfast, pie and chips, gammon, egg and potatoes and cottage pie.

On a Sunday there’s a choice of three meats served with potatoes, vegetables and gravy.

You can even add a dessert on to your order with cheesecake and apple pie among the choices on offer.

Delivery costs £1 or £2 depending on where you live, or is free if you spend over a certain amount.
