Spalding Cycling Club’s Time Trial season swung back into action on Tuesday evening with the traditional season opening five-mile time trial.
Chilly conditions greeted the 11 riders but a favourable tail wind down the Delph at least made for an easier start to the season.
Matt Chappell made a storming start, taking home the win with a fantastic 11:03, marginally beating Frazer Wallis by four seconds.
Things were tight with the top four all separated by less than a minute.
Chris Ward was third, only ten seconds further back, and it was a dead heat for fourth between Adam Ellis and Mark Booth with a time of 11:53.
The club’s first junior, Jacob Booth was fifth, only seven seconds behind his dad Mark.
Evgeniya Brand picked up exactly where she left off last season with another dominant performance in the women’s category, winning with a time of 12:49 and coming home ninth overall.
Next week sees another five-mile event before the start of the ten-mile league.
