Mary Gould saw off 38 other Spalding Golf Club ladies to lift the May Medal (sponsored by Hills Department store) prize at the Surfleet course.

Her score of net 71 was enough for top spot – and secured a handicap reduction of two shots in the process.

The silver division winner was Barbara Newcombe with a net 72, ahead of Anne Ellis (74) in second and Elizabeth Holbrook (75).

The bronze division was won by Carole Holland (74), ahed of Julia Colston (74) and Hannah Thorold (76).

The raffle prize, also donated by Hills, was won by Dina Reedman.
