Moulton Harrox Seconds are celebrating a first win of the South Lincs Border League season, a victory that lifted them off the bottom of the Division One table.
It came by just six runs at Ancaster and without captain Rob Callaby, who was injured.
Lewis Martin took the reins but lost the toss. Batting first. Charlie Poulter led the charge, while Zak Maddison added 10 before being trapped in front. Sonal Martin chipped in with a lively 14, before falling in the deep.
Thilina Dilshan joined Poulter, and the pair worked hard to build a competitive score. Poulter fell for a well-made 39, while Dilshan upped the tempo with a rapid 44.
Some late runs from Kalias (13) helped Moulton post a defendable 149.
With the new ball, debutant Eranda Kumara made an immediate impact, striking twice early to leave Ancaster 15/2. The hosts dug in and a solid third-wicket stand had them cruising at 75/2. But then came the moment of the day.
Martin turned to spinner Zak Maddison, who responded with one of the most destructive spells in club history, taking six wickets for just 19 runs from nine overs, dismantling the Ancaster middle order with ruthless control.
A wicket from Dilshan and a smart run out wrapped things up as Ancaster were bowled out for 143 in the final over.
Meanwhile the first team strengthened their grip on second place in the Premier Division with a strong all-round performance at Sleaford Seconds.
After winning the toss, captain Matt Rose chose to bowl on a green-tinged pitch. Uddyan Hansana got things rolling, trapping the opener in front, with Harry Lovell tying up one end in typically economical style.
Seasoned Sleaford duo Simon Godby and Warren Nel who began to rebuild until Rose (1-28) turned to himself, unleashing his trusty medium pace — and struck gold immediately, castling Godby with a yorker. From there, it was the slow bowlers working in tandem, with Rose and Flynn McMillan (2-25) applying pressure.
Debutant Paul Edgellar impressed straight away, settling in quickly with a tight six-over spell and claiming the edge of Charlie Roberts — finishing with a miserly 1-10 from his six overs.
Curtis Todd bowled with control and was rewarded with 2-13. A sharp run out from Hansana left Sleaford nine down before youngster Harry Shersby (1-6) claimed the final wicket to wrap things up.
Chasing 123, the Moulton reply began at glacial pace. Anchor Matt Barnett seemed intent on batting the full 45, finally getting off the mark after 20 balls. Jamie Juckes also struggled to score, eventually bowled by the impressive Josh Nel for three.
Barnett eventually fell for a marathon 21 from 51 balls but Flynn McMillan steadied the ship and began to motor. Rose came in at number four targeting his favourite leg-side zones from ball one. The pair saw Moulton home, McMillan finishing unbeaten on 43, and Rose with a brisk 37 not out, sealing an eight-wicket victory in the 29th over.
