Man drunkenly crashed into neighbour’s car fleeing row

Things went from bad to worse for a Spalding resident who tried to distance himself from a heated row at home.

Bryan Holland got into a vehicle while over the alcohol limit and immediately collided with a neighbour’s parked Audi A6 car.
Holland’s solicitor, Stuart Wild, told Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday: “Mr Holland’s intention was to drive a relatively short distance to get away from the situation. He did drive a relatively short distance because he drove off the drive and bumped a neighbour’s vehicle.”
Holland, of Dorchester Road, was found to have 50 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; the legal limit is 35.
The 57-year-old pleaded guilty to drink-driving and common assault.
Alison McIlroy, prosecuting, said the assault charge related to an incident when another neighbour, Toni Jenkins, came out to see why Mr Holland’s then-partner was out in the street and so upset.
“Mr Holland is seen to lean in to go to headbutt Miss Jenkins and, for want of a better description, appears to have thought better of it.
“It’s a common assault offence but there is no contact,” the prosecutor added.
A second defendant in the case – Nathan Williams-Holland (30) – then intervened and pulled Mr Holland away.
In police interview, Holland admitted to having had six or seven bottles of Budweiser before driving.
Mr Wild, mitigating, said the whole household had been drinking on that day, July 27.
“With the common assault, there was no contact fortuitously,” he added.
Holland was disqualified from driving for 14 months, which could be reduced with completion of a drink-driver’s rehabilitation course.
He was fined £120 for each offence and ordered to pay £181 in costs and victim surcharge.
Williams-Holland, of the same address in Dorchester Road, is accused of resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty.
His case was adjourned until September 20 for discussions over a possible caution as a disposal.
Williams-Holland was granted bail with the condition not to contact Jodene Yates.
