Man found to have knife and drugs after police search

A Spalding man was found to be in possession of a knife, as well as amphetamines and cannabis, when he was searched by police in the street.

Algis Mecilauskas, 21, of Spalding Common had admitted all three offences when he first appeared before magistrates in June and was now appearing for sentence following a report from the Probation Service.

The magistrates heard he had been stopped for a search by police in New Road on June 3 when the drugs and the knife had been found.

The court was told he had said he liked knives and collected them and had bought this knife for his collection.

Mitigating, Beris Brickles said it was Mecilauskas’ first appearance before a court.

The magistrates imposed a three month prison sentence, suspended for a year, for possessing the knife, and also ordered him to undergo 25 rehabilitation days.

He was also fined £40 for possessing drugs and ordered to pay a total of £213 in court costs and charges.
