Man appears in court charged with murder in Spalding street

A man charged with murder after another man was found dead on a Spalding street has today (Thurs) appeared at Lincoln Crown Court.

Vadims Zmicerevskis, 45, died after an incident at the junction of Green Lane and St Thomas’ Road in Spalding on Monday.

Viktors Zeglovs, 33, of no fixed abode, was charged with murder and this morning appeared at Lincoln Crown Court.

Dressed in a grey sweat shirt and grey jogging bottoms, Mr Zeglovs spoke only to confirm his name and listened to the hearing via a Russian interpreter.

No pleas were entered and no bail application was made.

Judge Simon Hirst adjourned the case for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Lincoln Crown Court on December 6.

The case was listed for a provisional trial date at Lincoln Crown Court on April 28, 2025.

The trial is expected to last seven days.

Judge Hirst told Mr Zeglovs: “You will next appear at this court on 6 December. On that date is expected you will enter a plea, either guilty or not guilty.

“If it is not guilty there will be a trial on April 28.”

Mr Zeglovs, who was represented by Tara McCarthy, was remanded into custody until his next court appearance.

The Crown Prosecution Service were represented by Jonathan Cox.

A 47-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of affray has been bailed pending further investigations.

Lincolnshire Police said the three men were believed to have known each other and the Force was not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder.

Mr Zmicerevskis’ family are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for privacy at this time.

People have been asked to speak to the police if they have any information relating to the circumstances of the incident, or have any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the area.

It is believed the men had been to Aldi a short while before the altercation took place, between 1.30pm and 2.15pm.
