Two people injured in separate incidents in Holbeach town centre

Two people were hurt during separate incidents in Holbeach town centre on Thursday afternoon (June 25).

A van collided with a female pedestrian in High Street at about 1.30pm. The woman, who is in her 60s, was taken to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital with a leg injury.

The road was closed for about an hour.

A second incident happened not far away in Chapel Street just after 3pm. A man was injured while unloading a lorry outside a shop.

Steve Tonks, one of the owners of Tonwood Home Hardware, said: “He came in to let us know he had arrived and that he was preparing to drop the load off.

“The next thing we knew we could hear him shouting and he was on the ground.”

An eyewitness, who lives nearby, said the injured man sounded so distressed and at first she thought he had been attacked.

“He was screaming and shouting ‘help me’,” she added.

Two ambulances and three police cars attended the scene. The man was taken to hospital.

Police say the incident will be treated as an industrial accident.
