Man accused of defrauding customers hands himself in

A Spalding man accused of defrauding customers by failing to supply orders for memorial headstones has today (Fri) appeared at Lincoln Crown Court.

Judge Simon Hirst had issued a warrant for the arrest of Julian Karl Gaunt after he failed to attend a pre-trial hearing last week.

Gaunt represented himself during the hearing and said  that he did not realise he had to attend court on October 2.

He explained that he went to a police station voluntarily after he learnt of the arrest warrant in a press report.

Gaunt, of Queens Road, Spalding, is accused of defrauding nine customers of JG Select Memorials.

Judge Hirst adjourned the case for a further hearing on November 23 to allow Gaunt to obtain legal representation.

Gaunt is due to stand trial at  Lincoln Crown Court in April next year.

The trial is expected to last several days with 24 witnesses required.

Judge Hirst granted Gaunt bail until his next court appearance.
