Water and gas leaks shut major Spalding Roads – updated

A burst water main and a separate gas leak are causing traffic chaos around Spalding on Tuesday, December 19.

Winsover Road was shut from 9am this morning as Anglian Water attempt to fix the leak.

It came at a time when Winsover Road was a part of a stated diversion for the closure of nearby Park Road where gas works are being carried out at its junction with Pinchbeck Road.

On Winsover Road, water was seen gushing out a crack in the road  yesterday lunch-time with the damage in the road increasing in size throughout the day.

Anglian Water say it hopes the road will be re-opened by the end of today.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “The leak on Winsover Road was reported to us yesterday and when our engineers attended they found the leak was causing damage to the road and a repair would need to be completed that day to keep our residents and road users safe. In order to complete the repair quickly and safely, the road had to be closed.

“We are very sorry for any disruption this may cause and we are working to resurface the road and get it reopened and back to normal later today.”

There’s also roadworks where gas works are being carried out at the junction of Park Road and Pinchbeck Road causing problems that back up on to Wygate Park.

A spokesperson for  local gas network Cadent, said: “Cadent is working on repairs to a gas main at the junction of Park Road and Pinchbeck Road. We have finished two repairs and we are currently working to trace and repair a further gas leak. To protect our staff and other road users, Park Road has been closed to traffic near the junction with Pinchbeck Road and a diversion route is in place.

“Unfortunately, owing to a burst water main, one of the roads on the diversion route had to be closed. We are working with the local highways authority to change the diversion route to reduce traffic congestion.

“We don’t yet know exactly how long the repair will take but we are aiming to get this fixed as soon as possible. It is a complex site, with a number of other gas mains and high voltage electricity cables. We’d like to thank people for bearing with us and we will keep people updated.”
