Maiden success for Spalding Water Polo

Spalding Water Polo Club beat Milton Keynes 17-10 to secure their first Herts League Division One win of the season.

The goals came from Jordan Templer (4), Jack Carpenter (4), Adam Sellars (3), Ben Marsters (2), Harry Bumfrey, Tim Shields, Nick Rickett and club captain Steve Rogers at the Castle Sports Complex pool.

Matches at this level consist of four quarters of eight minutes each, with hosts Spalding really seizing command of the clash in the second segment.
They trailed 2-1 and 3-2 in the opening period, before going ahead 4-3 at the end of the first period.

From then on Spalding didn’t look back, winning the second quarter 6-1 to make it 10-4 at the close before extending their lead to 14-7 in the next period.

Both teams added three more goals in the finale to complete the scoring.

Spalding have only just gained promotion to Division One of the Herts Water Polo League, having convincingly won Division Two last year. Their opponents this year are Watford, Bedford and Milton Keynes.

They train on Tuesday nights at the Castle (9pm), with a skills-based session at beginning at 8pm.
