Magic Maria claims Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s ladies title by a solitary shot

Maria Taylor-Vassall won Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Ladies’ Championship title with a narrow one-shot victory after 36 exciting holes.

A score of net 174 (94+80) on rounds over successive weekends was enough for Taylor-Vassall to edge Lorraine Gaille into second after her net 175 (89+86) and lift the Scratch Cup.

Lin Walker was the winner of the Handicap Cup with a net 153 (89-20=79 and 94-20=74), beating runner-up Christine Burton by one stroke (96-18=71 and 94-18=76=net 154).

  • Good company, sunshine and celebratory drinks and cake softened the blow for the ladies’ section, who lost the bi-annual match against the seniors’ section 3.5-1.5.
  • Ladies’ Stableford – 1st Jackie Maton 31pts; 2nd Lorraine Gaille 27pts (ocb); 3rd Christine Burton 27pts.
  • The Twilight Trophy, donated by past captain Maggie Semper, was won by Liz Miller with a score 19 points played over nine holes.
  • Tydd St Giles’ Daily Mail Foursomes event was won by Val Sambridge and Sylvia Illsey – on countback – with 25 points.
  • Men’s section: Men’s September Stableford: Division One – winner Alan Quinn 40pts; 2nd Ady Bills 39pts; 3rd Paul Hunt 35pts.
