Glen Maddison has stepped down as manager of Holbeach United after claiming his position had become ‘untenable’.
The former Sleaford Town boss guided the Tigers to 11th place in the UCL Premier Division this season, which was considered by most to be a fantastic showing for a team tipped by many to be relegation candidates at the start of the season.
Maddison, who managed Boston United Reserves before taking the Sleaford job, replaced title-winning boss John Chand last summer and had to rebuild the side from scratch.
In a text message, the outgoing manager said: “Glen Maddison, Mark Melson and Nick Bishop have stepped down from the management positions at Holbeach United as they feel the position has become untenable.
“We would like to thank the club for their support last season and wish them all the best for the future.”
A Holbeach club statement said: “The club are saddened by Glen Maddison’s decision to leave. We completely understand the situation and would like to wish Glen, Mark Melson and Nick Bishop the very best for the future.
“We’d like to thank them for everything that they have done for the club – especially considering he took over very quickly in challenging circumstances after the departure of John Chand and when few players were available.
“Our aim was to avoid relegation, so stave off the drop and finish 11th shows that they did a great job.”
