Macleod at double to inspire Spalding United to deserved Sporting Khalsa win

Spalding United 2 Sporting Khalsa 0

Two goals from leading scorer Jordan Macleod gave Spalding United a much-needed 2-0 win over Sporting Khalsa on Saturday.

Brett Whaley’s Tulips ended their two-game losing streak in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division with the best result of his short reign so far against a Khalsa side that are above them in the standings.

With striker Gregg Smith back in the fold after his loan spell at Grantham Town, Spalding took a first-half lead at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field when Macleod netted on 32 minutes.

The hitman then added his second ten minutes from time to settle the contest, giving the Tulips a ninth win of the season and keeping them 12th in the table.

Whaley said: “Much better from us today, and deserved our win.

“Really solid performance over the 90 minutes and was pleasing to keep a clean sheet against a decent side.

“Consistency is the key for us now.”

Tulips: Duggan, Price, Bucci, Jones, Stainfield, Cartwright, Starkie, Broccoli (Floyd 83), Smith, Macleod, Edge (Koroma 58). Not used: Wilkinson, Seymour-Shove, Adams.
