Free-scoring Spalding 4th are sitting pretty at the top of East Men’s League Division 6NW (N) after thumping Bourne/Deeping 6th 13-2 on Saturday.
James Mayhew and Stuart Perkins both completed first-half hat-tricks for Spalding in the rout, while Shaun Dewing also rattled in a treble.
Further goals from Dan Azzopardi and Mayhew – his fourth – ensured they made it three wins from three.
Also with a perfect record in that division are second-placed Long Sutton 3rd.
They beat club rivals Long Sutton 4th 4-1 to sit second in the table, with Andy Clarke scoring the consolation for the youthful fourth side.
Up in Premier B, table-topping Spalding 1st were beaten for the first time this season. Ipswich East Suffolk handed them a 3-1 reverse, but Spalding stay top on goal difference.
In Division One, Long Sutton 1st earned their third win from five games by seeing off hosts East London 1st 4-3.
Josh Fyson, who bagged inside 60 seconds, Ben Shore (2) and Ross Gavaghan got the goals for Sutton, who are now just three points off second place.
Down in Division 3NW, both Spalding 2nd and Spalding 3rd continue to struggle.
The 2nd side were left stunned by a last-gasp winner against City of Peterborough 4th, who won 3-2 at Glen Park.
Having fallen 2-0 down, Cameron Ibrahim and Joe Higgins hit back to level the scores before an unstoppable late goal left them empty handed. It was a little more comprehensive for Spalding 3rd, who were crushed 9-2 at leaders Horncastle.
Tim Maltby and Steve Rogers both netted in the first half as Spalding were bang in the game at 4-2 down at the interval, but they were punished after losing two key players to yellow cards after the break.
Below both of them are Long Sutton 2nd, who stay bottom and winless despite putting in their best performance of the season.
Two goals from player-of-the-match Josh Baker couldn’t stop them losing 3-2 against Ely City.
- Spalding Poachers 1st came from behind to beat Royston 1st 2-1 and stay top of East Women’s League Division 2NW on Saturday.
Trailing 1-0 at half time, Poachers levelled when the ever-impressive Georgina Maplethorpe slotted home after great work by Jacqui Pappalardo. Maplethorpe then turned provider for the winner, as her play down the right allowed Evie Maltby to scramble home the winner.
Just two points behind them in second are South Holland rivals Long Sutton, who thrashed Cambridge Nomads 5-1.
Leanne Woodhead (2), Lyn Tancred, Lisa Baker and Jess Hudson got the goals.
Spalding and Sutton meet at Glen Park this Saturday (12.30pm).
In Division 3NW, Spalding Poachers 2nd crushed Newmarket 2nd 5-0 thanks to goals from Lucy Simpson (2), Charlotte Morris, Zoe Moore and Ellie Holland.
Down in Division 4NW, Spalding Poachers are top after beating Louth 2nd 5-0. Grace Hodgett, Rachel Adams, Imogen Elmer, Elaine Allen and Kate Beeson all notched.
In the same division, Long Sutton ladies’ 2nd beat Woodhall Spa 7-2.
