Lowe smashes hat-trick as Tydd St Mary prepare for league start in style

Tydd St Mary FC finished their pre-season in style with a 6-3 away win over Upwell Town on Saturday.

Upwell took the lead after four minutes but The Saints were back level two minutes later when Nick Reims was upended in the box and Tim Lowe converted the penalty.

Reims was involved again on 18 minutes when Tydd went 2-1 up, slotting in Phil Franklin whose shot was saved and Joe Harrison was on hand to volley into the net.
Upwell levelled the game on the half hour with a good finish after a defensive error.

The second half saw Tydd come out with a changed formation but Upwell took the lead again ten minutes into the half.

The Saints responded well and were back level at 3-3 two minutes later when Darren Rawthorn raced down the right and unleashed a cracker of a shot that fooled the keeper at his near post and went in.

Tydd now upped their game and were having more of the ball. On 74 minutes, a Reims free kick was excellently headed in by MOM Matty Rose and just a minute later The Saints made it 5-3 when Reims again assisted, with a lovely lofted ball for Lowe to unleash a screamer of a shot.

Tydd made it 6-3 when Harrison was fouled in the box for Lowe to convert his second penalty and complete his hat-trick.

Tydd manager Carl Wilson was pleased with his side’s second half performance and a very good pre-season. They kick off their ChromaSport Peterborough League Division Three season on Saturday (August 22) at home against Riverside Rovers Reserves.
