Low-key start for Spalding and District Table Tennis League’s new campaign

The Spalding and District Table Tennis League set off towards its new season with a whimper rather than a bang.

In what is hopefully just a lull between the summer and autumn about 20 players turned out last week.

The practices were nevertheless highly competitive, but the league is barely any further forward in its preparations.

Two tables were fully occupied with juniors who returned for lessons despite the summer break having ended and it was good to see a new visitor joining as well and promising to return.

Hopefully others may like to do the same or even join the league on a full-time basis.

After the initial thrust at the annual meeting, the league is still awaiting confirmation of entries to put together the new programme.

Two have informed the league they are not continuing, which is a pity but they’re wished well while there is no information regarding others.

The committee would like last year’s members to get in touch, even if it is only to inform them that they have other plans.

As the league approaches its 80th year, it would be nice to be able to look to the immediate future with a little more confidence.
