‘Lord’ John’s long service

A ‘lord’ has been recognised for 25 years of service to a Spalding factory.

John Tomlinson (45) first joined the Spalding Bakery, currently owned by Addo Foods as a 20-year-old in the cold pie department after a short spell in the RAF.

John, who is called ‘Lord’ by colleagues because he owns a square foot of land in Scotland, now works as a CI technician after previously being a shift supervisor.

“In those days there wasn’t an induction,” he said. “It was a case of do you want a job? You start tomorrow. I’d never even been in a factory before.”

John says the best thing about working at the bakery is the people.

“They’re all characters,” the Roman Bank father-of-three continues. “They make factory life interesting and that’s what’s carried me along here.

“It’s always enjoyable.

“I’ve also had the opportunity to go abroad and learn about the industry.”
