Long Sutton top table as run continues

Long Sutton continued their winning start to the South Lincolnshire and Borders Cricket League Championship after seeing off Orton Park on Saturday.
Sutton’s bowlers set them up for the win as despite Orton winning the toss and electing to bat, they were bowled out for 137.
After an opening partnership of 26, captain Jake Burton did the initial damage as Orton lost five wickets for six runs.
Burton took 3 for 25 including all the top three batsman.
Paul Edgeller (2 for 20) got numbers four and five for ducks.
Orton’s middle order showed more resistance but Charlie Crisp chipped away claiming 3 for 30.
A counter-attack of 54 from 44 balls by Gavin Meichan helped the home side but he was last out, bowled by Josh Baker (1 for 31) in the 37th over.
The chase of 138 was not entirely straight forward for Sutton despite Nathan Oliver and Calvin Bird’s opening partnership of 52.
Both were out for 21 on that score and the game looked in the balance as they slipped to 82 for 5.
While Dom Clay (5 not out) anchored one end though, Barry Stanway hit 35 not out in 30 balls to see Sutton to a five wicket win.
The win takes them top of the division after eight games and wins in every game they’ve played.
