A brilliant batting display from Huntingdon and District blew Long Sutton’s Sunday side off the top of the Rutland League Division Three East table on Sunday.
Their stay at the top of the division was ended by a batting blitz that saw Huntingdon amass a huge 312 for 7 from their 45 overs.
A depleted Sutton who batted with just 10 had put the home side in on winning the toss but they were unable to quell the runs.
Opener Ghanshyam Pandya was one of the more watchful batsmen hitting two sixes in his 22 from 29 overs before being bowled by William Naylor.
That just brought Graham Hudson to the crease who hit the ball to all parts of the ground.
Backed by the remaining opener Sheraz Ali who scored a run-a-ball 57, Hudson hit 116 in just 67 balls.
His knock included 18 fours and four sixes as Sutton’s attack was put to the sword.
He was further backed by Ben Rowbotham (38) and Jacob Young (35) before retiring.
Naylor (3-53) and Callum John (3-52) provided some welcome wickets as did Angus Bell (1-52).
Huntingdon numbers eight and nine Adnan Hafiz (19 not out) and Ryan Paffett (13 not out) helped move their side past the 300 mark.
In the reply openers Rajan Sangha (11) and Naylor (14) made starts but were unable to progress.
Sutton’s own number three, Angus Bell, enjoyed a fantastic knock himself scoring a well made 89, but he struggled to find partners to stick with him for any length of time with the exception of Wayne Billimore’s 28.
Sutton were left 192 all out in the 39th over as Huntingdon completed a 120 run win.
With Werrington also winning, Long Sutton have slipped to third in the table, but it’s tight at the top with just 10 points separating them from new leaders Huntingdon.
Sutton are due to host Spalding Sunday in the league this coming Sunday.
