The cricket and hockey clubs from Long Sutton celebrated the completion of a brand new roof on the joint clubhouse with a Twenty20 clash on Friday night.
The cricketers batted first at Paradise Field and made a below-par 98, with Aron John (25 retired), Ellie Burton (17) and Paul Edgeller (15) top scoring.
Ben Shore and Jeorgia Carr got the reply off to a fine start, but the cricketers showed their steel with the ball as Rob Simpson (3-9) and Fiona Milnes (2-12) both impressed.
In the end, the hockey club ended up 24 runs shy of their target, meaning the cricketers claimed the winners’ trophy, which was kindly donated by David Baker.
A joint statement read: “Long Sutton Cricket and Hockey Club is very grateful to Sport England for the grant, which with the hard work of the executive committee, along with some superb fund
raising events organised by Amanda Burton, Alex Canham and Chris Booth, has made the new roof a reality.
“The club would like to send special thanks to all those members, supporters and local people who, alongside a number of local councillors and businesses, expressed their support in letters of support to Sport England.
“The club has been part of Long Sutton for generations, long may it remain so.”
