Local UKIP branch chairman welcomes prospect of ‘free and independent nation again’

The chairman of the UK Independence Party’s South Holland and The Deepings branch says he was “lost for words” after the stunning victory for Leave in the EU referendum.
Coun Paul Foyster, also a district and parish councillor for Holbeach, said once the shockwaves throughout Britain had died down a little, the people can look forward to being a “free and independent nation again”.
He said: “UKIP have achieved what we were told was impossible.

“I’m lost for words but it’s not quite as unique an event as that of early on Friday morning. We won. By over two to one in this district. I believe this was the third best result in England.
“Respect to [South Holland and The Deepings MP] John Hayes for his position, the active support of a few Tory grassroots members and others and even more so to the other local UKIP activists who worked so hard on this campaign and in building the machine, which is now due for a rest and an overhaul.

“Thank you all, you are champions!”

Referring to the subsequent annoucnement by Prime Minister David Cameron that he intends to stand down, Coun Foster added: “Let’s hope he takes Gideon (Chancellor George Osborne) with him. We’ll have to encourage the Conservatives to select the right Brexit candidate.

“We must not rest on our laurels, there is much work to do at a local level and there are still feet to hold to the fire. The days of the establishment ignoring the electorate must never be allowed to return, whichever party hold power.
“There will now be a short period of panic and disturbance but it will very soon pass.  There is all to play for now we are a free and independent nation again.”
