Local Greens leader – ‘Voters resent neglect of town centre’

It was a good night nationally for the Green Party but they are still waiting for their first seat on South Holland District Council.

The closest they came was Amy Cook-Nykyforczuk who claimed 489 votes in the Crowland and Deeping St Nicholas ward.
She said: “I cannot believe that I only lost my first election for The Green Party by 88 votes.
“I hardly had any time to campaign as I was only asked a day before the paperwork had to be submitted
“I’ll win in four years!”
Elsewhere, Simon Jenkins was fifth in the Pinchbeck ward with 431 votes.
The Green Party lead in South Holland, Martin Blake, got 183 votes but was behind Conservative Gary Taylor for the Spalding Castle ward.
“We are obviously disappointed that this wasn’t the year for Greens to make a breakthrough onto South Holland District Council, but it’s clear that people are widely dissatisfied with the Conservative government and with the Conservative administration which has served South Holland so poorly,” Martin said. “The swing against the Conservatives in Spalding wards shows how much voters resent the neglect of the town centre, and the poverty of imagination Tory councillors have shown.
“Nationally, Greens are on the march, as shown by our gaining over 240 seats across the country. We’ll continue to be a campaigning force in this area, and will be back even stronger next time!”
