Lions do a good deed to help scouts with outdoor area

Scouts initiativeScouts have been given a helping hand to create a new outdoor area at their headquarters.

Scout leader Paul Goodchild asked for help from East Elloe Lions to clear and level an area of rough ground behind the premises so they could build a new area.

The area has been designed specifically to give the youngsters an area to practise their knots and lashings and all of the outdoor survival skills they need to develop, including a fire pit, complete with banking and seating, designed for outdoor cooking.

David Enser, of East Elloe Lions, said: “Youth projects are important for the club and with kind assistance from Chislett Hire Company of Spalding, a mini excavator was quickly brought in and the site cleared in readiness for construction.

“The club sourced, supplied and delivered the necessary new timber sleepers which formed both the external walls and seating for the young people as well as creating wheelchair access for those that require it.”

Members of the Lions were invited along to the scouts’ recent annual general meeting, where Mr Goodchild thanked them for their help in getting the project off the ground.
