Links to criminality foils applicant’s bid for new Spalding off-licence

A bid to establish a new off-licence in Spalding has been thwarted after the applicant was found to have links with a shop involved in criminality.

Zarid Limalia (19) wanted to turn Global Image unisex hair salon in Winsover Road into VIP Alcohol.
However, a panel of members of South Holland District Council’s licensing authority comprising Angela Harrison, Harry Drury and Michael Pullen rejected the application.

A decision notice issued after last Friday’s hearing said: “The police held the strong view that the applicant had been put forward as a front to others who had previously become known to the authorities for the sale or supply of smuggled goods.

“The panel were more than satisfied by the material supplied by the police and the lack of satisfactory explanations by the applicant that he, the applicant, has links to the Baltic store, which has previously had its licence to sell revoked, and links to individuals who have been of interest to the authorities in respect of offences involving smuggled cigarettes.”
