Lightning start with a ten-point haul

Spalding Lightning’s men’s County League team started their season at Louth and came home with an 81 shots to 56 win and ten points from the 14 available.

They won on two of the four rinks with the top rink skipped by Kevin Ekins, with Nathan Puttrell, Paul Turner and Chris Warboys winning 28-9.

Lightning’s friendly team had a rematch over 18 ends with Lincolnshire VPs at Long Sutton and won 78-42.

They won on all four rinks with the top one skipped by Hazel Tokley, with John Selwyn, Janet Green and Phil Everett winning 22-9. Juniors Danny Griggs and Cooper Wells played well.

After suffering back-to-back away defeats in their first two matches, Lightning drew their Men’s over 60s Division One match at Scunthorpe, picking up seven points.

They won on two rinks and lost on two with the top rink skipped by Ian Harwood, with Tony Westland, Pete Bendell and Rob West winning 24-15.

Lightning’s National Men’s Over 60s Inter-Club double rink team were beaten by 40 shots to 31 against Grantham.

The home rink of Mick Dolton, Graham Hicks, Terry Windsor and Martin Simpson won 21-14 but the away rink of Tony Westland, Ian Stafford, David Nunney and Brian Martin were beaten 26-10.

After returning from a successful trip to Hong Kong, Spalding’s Dominic McVittie will soon be on his way back to the other side of the world to Australia. He has qualified for the first World Bowls Series singles finals in New South Wales between December 9-12.

The National u18 Inter-County Lincolnshire Tigers team beat Nottinghamshire 46-22. At Lincoln IBC, Spalding’s Thom Rodd and Max Butters joined Jake Johnson in a 15-10 win, while at Erewash, Chloe Bland teamed up with Spalding pair Aidan Brickles and Owen Aspinall in a 31-12 win.

Lincolnshire WIBA ladies’ Midland Counties team won on three of six rinks in their first match of the season but went down 97-92 against Leicestershire at Church Gresley. The team included Spalding’s Maisie Belding, Betty Deaton, Louise Harris, Karen Martin, Ann Newbury and Maggie Wheatley.
