Lighthouse lady sparks fundraiser

Year 1 children at Spalding Parish Church of England Day School have been studying the life of lighthouse keeper Grace Darling, which then led to a huge summer fundraiser.

RNLI volunteer Terence Carter was invited to the school to teach the children all about beach safety as part of their topic.

The children were so engaged with the talk that they wanted to hold a fundraiser for the RNLI charity and soon set to work planning their cake stall. In the last weeks of term children baked cakes, made posters and helped put together a letter to send out to parents.

Terence was then invited back into school to receive the cheque of £206.50. A school spokesman said: “The children were so excited to see Terence again.”
