Light Up a Life at hospice services in Spalding

Spalding residents are being invited to remember loved ones with a Light Up a Life event later this month.

St Barnabas Hospice will have a Tree of Life at each of its buildings and the community is being invited to dedicate a light.

There will be nine events in November and December and each will feature readings, music and a time for quiet reflection.

Candles will also be lit in remembrance.

The hospice, which is based in Lincoln, offers day therapy, support and other services in Spalding.

There will be a Tree of Life at the day therapy centre the charity runs in Spalding’s Clover Way.

The trees will all be decorated with messages in memory of loved-ones.

A special event will be held at Spalding’s St John the Baptist Church on Sunday, December 3 at 3pm.

“The celebrations are a special time for families and friends to join together in remembering the people that they love, who are no longer with us,” said a spokesman.

The event is free to attend and open to everyone, regardless of faith, and there is no need to book in advance.

An appeal for runners has also been issued by the hospice for the Lincoln event on Tuesday, November 28 at 6pm at Our Lady of Lincoln.

Their job will be to light the first torches for the annual parade after the service, and to run a mile from the church to Clayton’s Sports Ground.

The procession usually involves around 2,000 local residents taking part.

As the hospice is marking its 35th year, it is hoped 35 runners will be able to take on the role. They must be aged over 16 and for more information contact Ella Beale on 01522 540300.

The other events will be held at Boston’s Salvation Army centre on Sunday, November 26 at 2pm; Skegness on Friday, December 1 at St Paul’s Baptist Church; Sleaford Methodist Church on Monday, December 4 at 6.45pm; Gainsbrough United Reformed Church at 6.30pm; Louth Methodist Church on Sunday, December 10 at 3pm; St Wulframs Church, Gratham on Tuesday, December 12 at 6pm and at St Andrew, Sutton, at 3pm on Saturday, December 16.
