Lifetime achievement award for nuclear campaigner

A Moulton man who was awarded a lifetime achievement award at a ceremony in London on Friday described the experienced as an “absolutely fantastic night”.

Douglas Hern, who along with his wife Sadie, is the driving force behind the British Nuclear Test Veterans’ Association (BNTVA).

Mr Hern was given the prestigious award at the Soldiering On ceremony, which was compèred by Carol Vorderman.

It was presented to him by The Rt Hon Earl Howe PC.

Soldiering On stated: “Doug Hern has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to ensure the British Nuclear Test Veterans gain the recognition and support they deserve.

“Help with claims, pensions and media coverage, as well as ensuring the next generation never forgets their sacrifice – conducting research, giving talks in schools and maintaining an official archive.”
