Life-saving defibrillator installed at village hall

A new piece of equipment could soon be saving lives in a small South Holland village.

South Holland district councillors Anthony Casson, Rodney Grocock and Andrew Woolf have used their ward budgets to install a life-saving defibrillator at the village hall in Moulton Seas End.

They were aided by local resident Vera Angelo who raised funds by baking and selling cakes.

Coun Casson said: “The device really could help to save a life.

“it is vitally important that these facilities are available throughout the district.”

Coun Grocock said: “We thought that this would be a worthwhile way of using our ward budgets and would like to thank Vera for the part she played.”

Coun Woolf added: “Hopefully it will never need to be used but it will certainly provide peace of mind for villagers.”

The defibrillator can help resuscitate people who have suffered sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

This occurs when the electrical rhythm that controls the heart is replaced by a chaotic disorganised rhythm called ventricular fibrillation.

A defibrillator works by emitting a high energy electric shock which restores the heart’s natural rhythm.

Many SCA victims can be saved if people nearby recognise what has happened, call the ambulance service quickly, perform basic chest compressions and use a defibrillator.
