LETTERS – Wonderful help with Alzheimer’s

I was very interested to read Sir Jonathan Pryce’s letter in The Voice last week.
My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010 and I cared for him, alone, for over three years from diagnosis.
While he was at home it was impossible to actively support those who were doing the same I was.
No help was forthcoming until I obtained the very able advice of a wonderful consultant neurologist.
But for his assistance I would have found it difficult to keep going.
At the beginning of 2013 the neurologist organised his placement in a nursing home locally, which cared for him very well and I was then able to devote my time to helping others in the same position.
In 2014 my son ran the London Marathon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society and was very impressed with the care they gave him before, during and after the run.
He raised almost £4,000 for that society.
Since my husband died in 2018 I have tried to forget the experience of putting my life on hold for a number of years.
However, I am always prepared to support the society and anyone who has experienced dementia in any form.
