I would like to make you aware of a potential investigative story that effects many thousands of homes in South Holland and beyond.
In January 2026 the price per litre of heating oil for domestic water and central heating was 55p per litre. Today, it is quoted at £1.39 per litre an increase of 84p per litre, more than double the January price.
Why? Although we have the Iran war, the oil needed to supply our homes is in tanks on the Humber Estuary so why are these oil companies profiteering from the war in Iran and increasing these prices so much?
I am a simple pensioner, and whilst we are all aware of the rising costs of energy, petrol, diesel gas etc, no one seems to champion the plight of thousands of homes who have no other source of heating and hot water other than oil.
It rather beggars the question as to why domestic heating oil is not regulated in a similar way to other heating methods.
I’m sure if petrol or diesel saw this level of increase, there would be an outcry but once again, the rural community is forced into fuel poverty by greedy, profiteering companies out to make a fast buck.
I am also writing to Sir John Hayes, our MP, to ask him to raise this issue in the House of Commons.
