LETTERS – What does Sir John actually do?

So, Sir John Hayes has got in for the eighth time, yippee (not).
Everyone I speak to, with no prompting for me, says the same: “What exactly does he do for us ordinary folk?”
Exactly nothing! He spends a lot of his time in London worrying about global events instead of dealing with things in Spalding. He has even written articles about global problems in the local paper, must to our disgust.
We desperately hoped for someone to be elected that is one of us and lived with all the grassroot issues we want looking into, someone down to earth.
On the list of his things, he is going to sort out was the next Flower Parade, that is one day, one day, what about the other 364 days that us folk have to deal with outstanding things that we want looked into?
What about the water taxi problem? Is the asbestos problem just going to be left and nothing done to try and solve it? I could go on and on but what is the point? There is no-one to listen that seems to care.
I fell in love with Spalding and moved here in 1996. I gave up a top job down south and took a job at the local supermarket to pay the bills and live with the people I had come here to be with.
It was a lovely community, a lovely high street, mostly all boarded up now and becoming a ghost town, it has all gone.
Unless there is a photo opportunity in it, he doesn’t want to know.
Market Deeping and Holbeach are the nearest to still being a community, having almost a village feel about them, but not us in Spalding, we are being forgotten and no-one seems to care.
