LETTERS – Ukuleles raise cash and smiles

Is Spalding the most community minded town in the country? I wouldn’t be surprised! There are so many organisations which work enthusiastically to raise funds for the less fortunate and to give pleasure to the people of our town.

I bet you can think of quite a few and I suppose the Flower Parade amongst others will spring to mind.

One organisation which has a record of spreading happiness to our area and which has raised thousands of pounds for local good causes is the Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding.

Since it began its lively mixture of sing-along fun and infectious strumming and singing in 2008 it has been spreading joy throughout South Holland and beyond.

It’s appeared in a variety of large and small venues, given public concerts, played everywhere from care homes to hospitals, flash mobs to local pubs, most recently last Thursday in the Lincoln Arms, Spalding. Nobody in the Orchestra gets paid and all the money raised from the voluntary donations it receives goes to three local good causes every year.

Many organisations have benefited to the tune of thousands of pounds over its lifetime.

Would your organisation enjoy a highly entertaining visit from the Ukulele Orchestra? Or would you like to be part of the fun whilst giving back to the community?

We rehearse every week at the Broad St Methodist Church at 7.30pm on Thursday and all new players are warmly welcomed, whether you’re a beginner to Ukulele or the Uke equivalent to Eric Clapton.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got a Uke, we’ll lend you one to get you started. To chat about booking or joining us give Jeff a ring on 07981 910 154. ENDS.
