LETTERS – Time to rise above silly slurs

I note in Mr Sloan’s characteristically contemptuous letter in your paper (December 3) that he regards Tory MPs who are members of Sir John Hayes’s Common Sense Group or were members of the ERG as ‘Swivel eyed loons’.

In fact, as numerous commentators have said, the group that our MP leads – with over 50 Parliamentarians backing him – is a breath of fresh air.

Does Mr Sloan, I wonder, also consider his friends and neighbours in South Holland in the same vein?

After all, our area voted for Brexit by the second biggest margin in the entire nation.

If believing in traditional values makes us, in Mr Sloan’s measure, inferior, so be it. Or does Mr Sloan still not accept the people’s vote in the Referendum?

I do wish we’d all rise above silly slurs and personal insults however – especially in these times.

Our excellent MP has provided, throughout his time, a fine example of working within and across parties to put people above politics.
