LETTERS – Time for councils to work together

We have just encountered our first taste of bad weather for this winter which, fortunately, caused very little disruption.

However, I do wonder what will happen when the weather causes an accident on the A17 and traffic has to be diverted.

If Holbeach High Street is pedestrianised as suggested, where will the traffic be diverted?

Previous correspondents have highlighted the poor road network beyond the A17, a major artery between Norfolk and the north and the Midlands.

Who is going to want to travel to Wisbech and Peterborough to get round a road closure on the A17 between Sutterton and Sutton Bridge? There is no suitable alternative for the huge volume of heavy goods vehicles and other traffic.

This is not a time for SHDC to say that this is something Lincolnshire County Council deal with – now is the time for district and county councils to look together at the impracticalities of pedestrianising Holbeach High Street.
