LETTERS – Retirement age is outrageous

Seeing what’s going on in France it’s certainly outrageous that we in Britain have to work until we are 66 years and three months of age before we can retire.
I have another three years, seven months to work, I work 12-hour shifts which over the age of 55 working shifts is not good for your health.
I really can’t see me making it to retirement due to sleep deprivation as nights really destroy and tire you out.
I know I am not alone along with millions of others who also work shifts and facing the same fate.
‘Get another job’ will probably be the reply, well that’s not an option either as no employer wants anyone over the age of 50.
Not all of us have 9am-5pm office jobs which are easy for them to do and some of those are the ones making the rules on pension age working with it due to go up even higher.
Clueless I would call them, as they have no idea of how shift work effects the body and the problems they cause, or they do but don’t care, which is probably more accurate.
