LETTERS – Let’s welcome people

Barriers? What kind of impression does this give to visitors to our town?
What comes next? The barriers controlled by security men with dogs?
The good news is the removal of the ‘drinker’s circle’, but please let us replace it with something with some sort of imagination!
Now for my hobby horse – if only we had had the town fountain put back to its former site but despite the sterling work by The Civic Society and the wishes of a large majority of the town’s population surveyed, this was not to be!
My only hope is that, in the future (when we are all dust!), the town of Spalding may get a council that realises what is missing!
You must know by now, that I grew up in a town that was once open and vibrant.
Let us please welcome people to Spalding!
