LETTERS: Let’s get back to the real world

I write with reference to the mainstream news media reporting of COVID- 19 et al.
The pandemic is very distressing and causing great misery and suffering for many people.
Despite all this misery, the mainstream news media seem focused on mainly reporting doom and gloom at every opportunity.
They mostly interview members of the public/experts with complaints, and very rarely give a counter balanced view to the negativity they want to wallow in.
A typical example relates to the recent report that just over eight per cent of schools have had to close due to infections.
The reporter then rounded up the eight per cent to ten per cent and then droned about how bad it was that ten per cent of schools were infected.
The gloom laden reporter failed to acknowledge that 92 per cent were operating infection-free.
In my world, 92 per cent trumps eight per cent any day.
Let’s get back to the real world and strive to get over this pandemic despite the gloom mongers.
