LETTERS – Is Northern Ireland part of UK?

I write further to the recent spat between the PM and Mr Macron over Northern Ireland being a part of the UK.

Instead of citing Toulouse or Strasbourg, the PM should have reminded Mr Macron about the five overseas departments – French Polynesia – Wallis and Futuna – French Guiana – St Pierre-Miquelon – Saint Barthelemy – Saint Martin – deemed to be part of France and so recognised by the EU.

All of these overseas departments are a much further distance from Paris than Northern Ireland is to London.

Mr Macron’s argument about the geography of Northern Ireland vis a vis London pales into insignificance as usual.
