South Holland Rotary Club has been out and about with Santa these last few weeks, receiving generous donations from the people of Spalding, for which we are very grateful.
In addition to making donations to the organisations, clubs and local charitable groups who help us with our collections, we thought we would let you know how some of the remainder is spent.
We financially support special schools and groups for people with disabilities, we send young people on leadership and character-building courses, and we help local individuals with financial and other problems where we are able.
This year we have worked with EDAN Lincs (End Domestic Abuse Now) organising and running a golf competition at Spalding Golf Course, paying out a little over £1,700 to them.
More recently, during November we have made the following donations:
£200 to the Respite Association, £200 to the Agape Food Bank, £150 to The Spalding Voice Give a Gift Appeal, £100 to the BBC Children in Need appeal and
£500 which we pledged to a Rotary Club in Kettering for a very large humanitarian project in Ghana.
Joining with other clubs in these large projects attracts matching funds from The Rotary Foundation and such partnerships make major beneficial work possible.
We have another major scheme in the planning stages with matching funds pledged which we will be able to report on early in the new year.
We have also recently assisted a local family with emergency transport arrangements and other local people in financial need following domestic crises.
At the end of this year’s Santa Sleigh campaign, we will be able to let everyone know how well we have been supported.
We are delighted with the support we are given – and believe us, we need it.
Importantly, now we need to recruit additional members with new ideas, new energy and the will to serve the community – having fun doing it too.
