LETTERS – How did plum loaf originate?

A few days ago I paid a lot of money for a piece of cake, a little slice of cheese and a cup of tea. The cake was advertised as ‘plum loaf’.

I have been seeing Lincolnshire Plum Loaf advertised for a few decades now but some of it looks and tastes just like what we used to call dough cake. Now and again I buy one.

Am I the only person left in Lincolnshire who talks about ‘dough cake and cheese’?

Are there any food historians out there who can tell us how long ago the ‘plum loaf’ came into being?
