LETTERS – Here’s why refugees risk everything

Just a few reasons why refugees risk everything to cross the channel by dingy.

In France they do not automatically receive access to free housing, healthcare and schooling.

Asylum claims in Britain can take ten, 12 years plus. Unbelievably the claimants are then given back dated benefit cheques for sums up to £60,000 having not paid a penny in to the system! (Source: Staff at Works & Pensions HQ Newcastle).

I hope the refugee who Gary Lineker is going to house will be placed on the ‘At Risk Register’ by social services. A diet of political correction and crisps would test the constitution of even the most robust of emigres!

Last week on the program Can’t Pay We’ll Take It Away, a young man and his dog were evicted from a flat because his sister hadn’t kept up with the rent. On asking his council for help he was told: “Tough, you’re out on the streets.”

Now it shouldn’t make any difference whether you stagger ashore from Iran or the Isle of Wight you should be entitled to emergency accommodation.
