LETTERS – He would be first to object

Mr Swallow has quite a bee in his bonnet about the campaigns our local MP John Hayes has been working on, including our own in Sutton Bridge where we are fighting against an industrial asphalt plant.

It comes as no surprise to see that this chap lives nowhere near Sutton Bridge – or indeed any of the other monstrosities he thinks should be dumped on South Holland – and would not have to live with the consequences.

Of course, it’s easy for him to spout some type of warped logic for why an industrial asphalt plant with all its detriments for our community would be a good idea. Having no local knowledge would explain why he thinks he knows better than the more than 420 local people who have objected to this plant, our local councillors and MP.

No doubt he would be the first to object if the same asphalt plant was to be built next to his home with the smell, noise, light pollution, and harm to health high on his list of concerns.

Asphalt plants are normally located in quarries – a good distance from residential areas and playing fields – close to the raw materials. Why? It reduces transport and air pollution with minimal impact on local communities.

If Mr Swallow lived in Sutton Bridge and wasn’t so arrogant to assume he knows better than everyone else, he might spend a bit more time educating himself rather than trying to score cheap political points.

I thought MPs were supposed to fight for local people, communities and the future of this country and future generations?
