LETTERS – Green party boost from leader

Green Party candidates standing in the county council election today (May 6) have been boosted by a message of support from Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley.

Jonathan said: “I fondly remember my visit to Spalding a while ago, where I learned how far the Conservative councillors who have run Lincolnshire have let down the people who elected them. There’s an urgent need for Green voices on Lincolnshire County Council.

“Having a Green in the room provides a voice for the environment, the climate and social justice, and it’s vital that we get Green candidates elected in the South Holland area on May 6.

“People realise the world has changed because of the pandemic. We do not want to go back to the way things were. The pandemic has put a spotlight on the rampant inequality in our society and the destructive relationship we have had with our environment.

“The Greens are the only party looking forward to how we create a better future by pledging to build a Green Recovery for every community across the country.”

Having doubled its number of councillors at the last local elections, the Green Party is expecting to make significant gains across the country on May 6, as it stands around 3,000 candidates, a record number, across England and Wales.

In the South Holland area, the Green Party is putting up candidates in Donington Rural (Martin Colman), Holbeach Rural (Christopher Clark), Spalding Elloe (Heather Violett) and Spalding South (Martin Blake).
