Letters – Give line dancing a try in 2018

As we say goodbye to 2017 and usher in the New Year, there’s no better time to reflect on the last 365 days and for me, the hobby that changed my life!

I started in February and In just ten months I’ve lost weight, made dozens of new friends, met the love of my life and had my name in lights…well not quite, but I’ll explain.

The hobby in question is linedancing….WAIT……forget all of the stereotypes….line dancing has come a long way from its cowboy hats and country music roots!

Only this week I’ve danced to Kelly Clarkson, Clean Bandit and Little Mix. In fact the line dance charts consists of a mix of songs from golden oldies such as Sweet Caroline through to Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber.

I’m 34, male, love music and had no dancing experience whatsoever before taking up line dancing. I now go five times a week and my excess weight is starting to drop off. I’m even choreographing dances which have reached the top 20 charts.

Line dancing can be as big or little thing as you like in your life but if your like me and love music and a challenge then you’ll be hooked!

In our area there are so many opportunities to line dance and my teacher Carol from Lets Danze has five classes a week all in local villages ranging from beginners to ones for more experienced dancers so just give it a Google and find the class that suits you.

I’m writing this because the stereotypes almost put me off starting.

Don’t be discouraged because the music is so varied, community so friendly and hobby so invigorating that you can’t help but love it.

If you do one thing this year….try line dancing!
