LETTERS – Frustrated over bin collections

Can I through your paper vent my frustration with South Holland District Council’s black bag rubbish collection services.
Since the rubbish collection rounds were re-arranged and changed recently we, on Farrow Road, Whaplode Drove, have suffered an unreliable and spasmodic service.
For years, the whole village used to be collected, both black and green bags on a Wednesday and this ran as smooth as silk, but since re-organisation, it’s all gone awry.
The main thoroughfare of the village, Broadgate, along with Chapelgate, are collected on a Thursday, with the rubbish lorries passing along Farrow Road to return to Spalding.
Farrow Road, Green/Back Bank along with a bit of Shepeau Stow are collected on a Friday – make sense of that if you can (I’m going dizzy typing it).
Since Christmas 2024 we have had three missed and re-arranged collections, when our black bags, which should have been collected on the Friday, have sat on the pavement all weekend, and this week in particular it’s been Wednesday before we have had a collection.
I have reported through email, rang SHDC offices, contacted two district councillors, and I know other residents of the road have reported as well and their experience is much the same, nothing seems to happen or register with anyone.
I asked the woman who I spoke to the third time if she could put me through to the department concerned but she declined, saying it wasn’t possible “we can’t do that” – why not?
If you employed a private firm to do the same job and you were subject to a service such as this you would change your supplier, but unfortunately we cannot do that. And that is no reflection on the collection teams who do a fantastic job in all weathers.
I note that SHDC want more money from us from April, so come on someone, get a grip, give us the service we used to have.
