LETTERS – Eroding women’s rights

Whilst returning home from town today I noted that South Holland District Council is flying a rainbow flag.

In times gone by I would not have batted an eyelid at this as I support universal equal rights.

Today however, I found myself beginning to tense. The reason for this is that to me this symbol has changed from a banner of righteous, equal treatment into a battle standard against women’s rights.

I find myself questioning the continued endorsement of Stonewall by Argos, Sainsbury’s and even the municipal corporation whilst this situation persists.

Of course, in general terms, one can always withdraw one’s patronage of a shop if we do not agree to sponsoring the removal of female dignity in public spaces; but this is not legal when it comes to the district council and this is why it is even more wrong for them to tacitly endorse Stonewall whose declared aim is to erode the rights of girls and women, such as my teenage daughter, for their own financial gain and “relevance”.

The most stark behaviour Stonewall are exhibiting in their victimisation of women’s rights is that they are trying to take away women’s right to say ‘no’.

Stonewall must revert back to its previous role or be denied any public/corporate support.
