LETTERS – Enough to deter shoppers

When is our council going to wake up and smell the roses?
They state they want our views in order to make a success of Spalding town centre, but then allow a new ‘European food’ shop to trade with one window completely obscured with white paint and the other with wooden struts along it.
I was under the impression the council were trying to cease this invisible trading!
When are they going to realise that foot fall is not encouraged by this type of shop in the high street.
We now have Robert Goddards closing. Yet another large shop of some standing.
The town has never recovered from the disastrous decision of taking the stalls from the market traders away.
I have stated many times in this paper if you want to see a thriving market and successful high street, look no further than Stamford. Not one empty shop and a plethora of stalls filling two high roads. It’s a real pleasure to spend the day.
No one from the council obviously frequents its own high street otherwise they would’ve seen the lopsided planters as stated in last week’s The Voice.
Or the homeless still sleeping in the doorways. The drinkers still occupying the new seating area.
We haven’t had the water taxi for nearly a year. The road gulleys and drains are full of weeds, hence flooding occurs every time it rains, especially at the junction of West Elloe Avenue and Pinchbeck Road.
Although there is much more, just writing these few things is enough to deter shopping or visiting here.
